The Liquid Jungle Laboratory warmly remembers Santiago Castroviejo Bolibar a Research Professor of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) at the Real Jardín Botánico, Madrid, Spain. Professor Santiago was one of the first pioneers to complete a comprehensive biodiversity inventory of Isla Canales de Tierra Island, site of the Liquid Jungle Lab, in a 835-page, bilingual volume entitled “Studies on the Biodiversity of the Bahia Honda Region (Veraguas, Panama). Santiago Castroviejo also studied and compiled a rich tome cataloging the zoology of Coiba island in (1997) entitled “the Flora y Fauna de Parque Nacional de Coiba” and was very influential in the creation and conservation of what is now known as the Coiba National Park. Professor Santiago Castroviejo passed away on the 30th of September 2009 at the age of 63.
